Armenia on Tuesday reported a record number of daily coronavirus infections and deaths amid a steady growth of cases.
Last month, the country lifted most of its lockdown measures despite an increase of cases. However, the health ministry said on June 2 that, in the past 24 hours, the number of infections rose by 517 to 10,009. 19 more people died from the virus, bringing the death toll to 158, the ministry added.
The announcement came a day after prime minister Nikol Pashinian said that he and his family have tested positive for Covid-19, and added that he will self-isolate in his residence and will continue to work distantly.
Pashinyan said the government will not impose a nationwide lockdown, but will continue to promote social distancing and other hygiene rules. “We have to learn to live with the novel coronavirus”, he said.
